    The marine layer returns to the west coast mid-week as the battle between high and low pressure systems resumes. The high pressure wins late this week, with a warming trend to seasonal norms into next week. Extended forecasts keep the ridge in place through next week.

    A very active weekend out west as the remnants of Hurricane Dolores brought thunderstorms and heavy rains throughout the Southwest. Rain totals varied widely, depending on where the thunderstorms developed with Southern California and the Southwestern desert regions receiving the bulk of the energy.

    The cool down out West continues this week as an upper level low pressure system moves through California. This deep low system will bring a good chance of drizzle near the coast keeping temperatures in the 60s into the weekend. Inland regions will reach the 70s with upper 80s in the warmest interior valleys. A warming trend begins over the weekend as high pressure returns next week on the West Coast. Monsoonal moisture will continue to bring a chance of afternoon showers mainly in the higher terrain.

High pressure wins out by Wednesday, with warmer temperatures and off shore flow into next week. Monsoonal moisture from the Pacific Ocean will continue to bring a chance of afternoon showers to the upper terrain through the week.

    After weeks of very warm temperatures across the Western states an upper level low pressure system off Central California will bring a cooling trend to California and the west in general this week. Coastal regions will remain under the influence of the strong and stubborn marine layer through the week.

    A strong high pressure ridge remains in charge out West through the weekend with temperatures near the coast continuing in the upper 70s with mid 90s in the inland valleys. The interior regions of the Central Valley will see very warm triple digit temperatures 5-10 degrees above seasonal averages.
